Fogerty warms up for Olympic test

Star of the Conyers Dill &
Pearman Byte National Championship last weekend was teenager Oliver Fogerty who
saw off all competition.

It was held at the Cayman Islands
Sailing Club in Red Bay. Fresh north winds made for fast and exciting sailing
around short race courses and Forgety, 16, did exceptionally well.

Marina Maffessanti finished a close
second place. Chris Delaney placed third.

This was the fifth running of the
Conyers Byte Nationals, an annual regatta to determine Cayman’s top Byte
sailor. The Byte is a one person dinghy designed for lighter weight sailors.

The regatta was a warm-up for the
Race Cayman Byte North American Championship and Youth Olympic Qualifying Event
which started yesterday at the CISC.

The regatta has 30 Byte racers
representing 14 countries vying for a chance to qualify for the Youth Olympic
Games in Singapore this summer.

The CISC invites the general public
to turn up to watch the racing.
