Demonstration workshop

 Visitors to Saturday’s floral
workshop at the Garden Club of Grand Cayman’s Annual Flower Show were treated
Frank Laning demonstrating how to make a number of stunning floral displays.

The fellow of the American
Institute of Floral Designs and honorary member of the Garden Club opened the
50 minute session by creating an arrangement displayed in a contemporary
container of glass and steel. Using native heliconia, amaryllis and pin cushion
protea.

The Floral Manager for The Ritz-Carlton,
Grand Cayman then made a low vegetative arrangement in a polished aluminium container
and talked about going green.

He told the 100-strong audience
that many of the new flowers that the floral industry were now using  were being left naturally green instead of
being dyed.

The second arrangement, Mr. Laning made used
green kangaroo paw, echevaria and lettuce fern. The arrangement used different
textures, shades of green and was compact.

The floral designer finished by
making four other arrangements all of which were hand tied bouquets for
dropping into containers. Attendees asked questions after each arrangement was
completed.
