Kirani so quick

As expected Grenadian Kirani James
destroyed the competition to win the U20 boys 400 metres at the XXXIX CARIFTA Games
in the Cayman Islands last Saturday with a record run.

James clocked a personal best and
championship record of 45.02 seconds to win by almost 40m over the field. Finishing
second was Trinidad and Tobago’s
Deon Lendore, at 46.59, with Jamaica’s
Jermaine Gayle taking third in 46.80.

That mark would be a new personal
best for the 17-year-old who also won the 200m in a time of 20.76s (another
personal best).

James, a freshman sprinter at the University of Alabama, produced one of the quickest
times this year in track and field.

Then again he is no stranger to
success having been a medallist in the Commonwealth Games, World Youth and
World Junior Championships. He was also named Grenadian sportsman of the year
in 2009.
