Leaping indoors again

Wednesday night marks the return of
men’s basketball to Cayman’s sports landscape.

The Cayman Islands Basketball
Association national men’s league kicks off with a pair of division two games.

At 6:30pm the Rock Hole Fyah Ants
battle the GP Shockwaves before perennial powers the Digicel Demons face Future
Sports Club at 8:15pm.

Rock Hole are coming off a solid
2009 campaign where the squad made the playoffs in their first year in local
basketball. The Shockwaves meanwhile are a new name on the scene and time will
tell if they resemble the Shockwaves team that won last year’s U19 youth
league.

Digicel had a spectacular 2009
season in which the side went through the regular season undefeated and won the
division finals over Esso. Future meanwhile limped to the bottom of the
standings, struggling to win a game.

Both matches take place indoors at
the Arts and Recreation Center at Camana
Bay.

Division one launches off on
Thursday night with two games of its own. At 6:30pm the defending champion
Wolves look to start their title defense against last year’s finalist the Esso
Blazers.

From there new team Bulls look to
stake its claim to the upper echelons of local hoops in a battle against the
Wendy’s Tarheels at 8:15pm.

With all men’s league
games going indoors, the comprehensive shift of local basketball indoors is now
complete.
