Jacques Scott’s Little store has westward plans

A new liquor store is set to open
in West Bay as part of a brand new development.

Peter Dutton, managing director of
Jacques Scott Group Limited, has applied for a change of location of an
existing Package Liquor License to West Bay, Block 5C, Parcels 289 and 290,
adjacent to Foster’s Food Fair Republix Supermarket on the east side.

The license is held by Jacques
Scott Wine & Spirits at The Little Liquor Store at 23 North Church Street
in George Town. The store is a long-established part of George Town’s shopping landscape.

The Jacques Scott Group operates
other Wines & Spirits outlets at the corner of North Sound Road &
Shedden Road, Galleria Plaza on West Bay Road and at the Countryside Shopping
Mall in Savannah, as well as their wholesale, wine cellar duty free and island
supply divisions.

New complex

Mr Dutton said that a new-build
complex was in the planning stages at the Foster’s site and was being designed
as a retail outlet for multiple tenants.

“This will be a new building. My
brother, Hugh, is an award-winning architect in France and he is working with local
architects to develop a really nice development.

“The building will comprise our store
and there will be space for a further two or three stores, and possibly offices
upstairs. The building is intended to be tasteful and to blend into the local
landscape, bearing in mind the other historical buildings in that area,” said
the managing director.

Mr Dutton said that the idea to
have an outlet in West Bay had long been in the minds of the licensee and
although he could not put an exact date on it, the decision had evolved over
the years. He said that the new build could have significant impact on the

“This project will amount to a
sizeable investment in the district.  We hope it will bring high quality
tourism to West bay, and will provide sustainable employment for residents in
that district,” added Mr Dutton.

The application for variation will
be heard at a special meeting of the Liquor Licensing Board of Grand Cayman to
be held at Customs Headquarters at Owen
Roberts Drive in George Town at 2pm on Thursday, 22 April.
