Rooster’s best can crow

The sixth annual Kirk Group Rooster
Shootout saw a lot of winners.

Local radio station Rooster 101
wrapped up their annual fishing derby on Wednesday April 21st at the Brick
House. The event attracted 39 boats carrying 163 anglers and saw winners in 12 categories.

For the Bimini Start the Heaviest
Fish award (sponsored by Kirk Marine) went to Aaron Ebanks on Strike Force with
a 64 pound Yellowfin Tuna (he also had the second heaviest with a 60lb Yellowfin).

Ebanks also earned additional props
by nabbing the Junior Angler award, which was sponsored by Cayman Screen Print.
Ebanks won thanks to his 64lb tuna.

Overseas Angler, sponsored by Islands
Glass Art, went to David Campisi on “O” Reely Daddy with his 41.06lb Wahoo.

One of the most prolific anglers
throughout the tournament was Samara Persaud of Waste’n Time. She won the Lady
Angler (sponsored by Kirk Supermarket) and Rookie Angler (sponsored by
Paramount Carpet) awards with an 85.06lb Yellowfin Tuna.

An interesting prize was the Sportsmanship
award, sponsored by Kirk Beverage. That went to Captain David Henson McNabb on
Caribbean Sport. His boat came from the Bay
Islands in Honduras.

The Grand Whopper prize (sponsored
by Burger King) went to Waylon Bush on Morning Spirit. Young Waylon had the
only boat to weigh a qualifying fish in the three species. Bush hooked a 27.08lb
Dolphin, a 15.08lb Wahoo and a 61.10lb tuna. Thanks to Bush’s haul this is the
second year in a row that Morning Spirit has won the Grand Whopper.

From there 22 boats entered the Al
La Kebab Brown Bag Jack Pot. Third place went to Strike Force Captain Chris
Briggs who had 330pts, all from Yellowfin Tunas weighed. He took home
U$1,029.75.

Second Place went
to Morning Dream Captain Roger Ebanks who had 500pts with three Blue Marlin releases.
His take was U$1,716.25.

First place went to Outcast,
Captained by Daniel Stewart with 539pts. Stewart had one Blue Marlin release
and one White Marlin release and 39.22 points from other fished weighed in.
This is the second year in a row that Outcast has won the Jack Pot. Stewart
took home U$3,432.50.

Over in the Wahoo section
(sponsored by Hew’s Restaurant Supplies) third place went to Lincoln Hurlstone at
39.08lbs aboard Bare Assets. Second place went to Joel Francis at 40.03lbs on
Tub Too and David Campisi came first at 41.06lbs on “O” Reely Daddy.

For Yellowfin Tuna (sponsored by
Cayman Imports) third place was Jason Brown at 68.06lbs on Waste’n Time, second
place was Robert Hurlstone at 69lbs on Black Magic and Samara Persaud was first
at 85.0lbs on Waste’n Time.

The Dolphin category (sponsored by
Dolphin Custom Cabinets) saw Robert Puliusz in third at 38.10lbs on Raise’ Em,
second went to Jack Hunter at 53lbs aboard More Time and first went to Richard
Adams at 54.05lbs on Topless (four pounds below the Cayman record of 58lbs).

The Captain prize of a Tudor Watch,
from sponsor Kirk Freeport, went to Chris Briggs on Strike Force.
