George Town was awash in colour and
energy Saturday as Cayman Carnival Batabano 2010 paraded through the streets.
The annual effervescent celebration
of Caribbean life attracted thousands of spectators thronging the parade route
as mas bands and revellers danced their way down from Lawrence Boulevard Drive
into George Town.
The sun smiled on each sequin on
the fabulous costumes, echoing the glean of the Caribbean sea.
Swanky International, sponsored by
What’s Hot, were again voted best mas band, closely followed by LIME – the main
sponsor of the event – in second place and Reva in third plac.
The steel pan band winner was
Pan-O-Rama; Spirit of Batabano went to Azucar, who also won best small band.
Best female individual was Keisha Princess of Swanky International and best
male was Mas of Zorro, also of Swanky International.
Art in the Heart wowed the town
crowds and the food festival was incredibly popular as the thousands of hungry attendees
chowed down on delicious local dishes, topping up the energy levels before
heading back into George Town
to party all night with great music from local acts and the midnight finale. A
beautiful cacophony of whistles diffused over Hog Sty Bay, sending waves of joy rippling
outward from this fabulous fiesta.
