Shelter managers needed

The
Department of Children and Family Services is seeking volunteers in all
districts of Grand Cayman to fill the post of shelter manager during the
hurricane season.

Volunteers
should be responsible, mature, dependable adults with an interest in serving
their community.

Previous
experience is not necessary as training sessions will be held Wednesday and
Thursday, 12 and 13 May, at Prospect Primary Hall, starting at 6pm.

All
participants will be certified.

Cayman
has 20 hurricane shelters – 16 based in Grand Cayman and four on the Sister
Islands.

Hurricane
season begins on 1 June and continues until 30 November.

Weather Services International has forecast
that this hurricane season will see 16 named storms, nine hurricanes and three
major hurricanes of Category 3 or above.

Last
week, Cayman held an exercise to prepare for and deal with a mock storm, called
Hurricane Dan.

For
further information on how to volunteer to become a shelter warden, call the
DCFS at 949-0290 or 925-5366.
