Blazers will eat KPMG

Last Saturday the WestTel
Youth Roller Hockey playoff rounds began with eight games on the day’s agenda.
The semi-final matchups were as intense as expected, including two nail-biting
overtime finishes.

In the Peewee division,
Appleby Sharks secured their spot in the final thanks an 8-1 thrashing of the
Vampt Oilers. The  day’s first overtime
saw Finn Walker of the Hurleys Hawks nab the game winner over Christopher Messer
and the Five-Continents Leafs. Coach Chris Moser of the Hawks said afterwards
“The kids were pumped! They came out very strong in the first, maybe a little
too fast, as they slowed a bit in the second and beginning of the third period.
I must admit, this was one of the best hockey games I’ve seen and I’ve seen a
lot of hockey games!”

The Appleby Sharks and
Hurleys Hawks met on Wednesday May 26th in the finals. The bronze medal
match-up between the Five-Continents Leafs and Vampt Oilers takes place on
Saturday May 29 at 8:30am.

The Atom division sees the
Eats Blazers and KPMG Senators meeting in the finals on Saturday. KPMG beat the
Animal House Penguins in the day’s second overtime game.

Penguins’ Coach Tim Courtis
commented afterwards “What a disappointing loss for us.  The kids played so hard and after being up
3-1 it looked like we had the game well in hand.  But full credit to the KPMG Senators; they
never gave up and chipped away at our lead. In particular I felt really sorry
our goalie, Beth Johnson, who played a great game and held us in there. She
deserved a better result. We look forward to ending the season on high note in
Saturday’s Bronze medal game.”

This Saturday the Blazers
and Senators tangle at 3:45pm after the LOM Capitals and Animal House Penguins
battle at 2:30pm for third place. In the Novice division number one dms Bruins
and number two Coldwell-Banker Rangers meet in the final at 1:30pm on Saturday.
The Bronze Medal game for between the XN Financial Flames and Walkers Blue
Iguanas takes place at 11:30am.

Lastly the WestTel Mites
teams play their final games of the season on Saturday. The Maples Stars take
on the Deloitte Wild at 9:45am while the Dart Ducks and Conyers Canucks tangle
at 10:45am.
