Kid ref soon come

Fourteen year old Jeremy
Welcome a student of Heritage High School was the youngest participant in the
FIFA Youth Coaches Course held recently at the Family Life Centre and the
Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

The course was conducted by FIFA
Instructor Alvin Corneal and was put on by the Cayman Islands Football
Association, in collaboration with FIFA and the Cayman Islands Olympic
Committee. It lasted for seven days and comprised of classroom and practical
sessions.

Welcome in a brief interview
said that the application of the course by FIFA Instructor Alvin Corneal was
fun and he enjoyed it so much he is now inspired to take up coaching as a
profession.

“I was encouraged to do this
course by my father Jocelyn Morgan. I was a bit hesitant at first but after
attending the first session I was so fascinated I looked forward to continuing
the course and was always early.

“The warming up sessions at
Truman Bodden was fun as we all competed to get everything right. I learnt a
lot from Mr. Corneal regarding alertness, being on target and doing
pre-planning. The group was supportive and cooperative to me despite my age and
I was very comfortable with them. The presenter was very serious but his
presentations were charismatic and this made the course easier to handle.

“The course has helped me to
identify my hidden potentials and I have discovered that coaching is a part of
me. I am very excited and look forward for the next course of this kind to
improve my abilities.”

Welcome played for the Roma
United Under 17 team in the capacity of a Right Wing, Left Wing and Centre
Forward in the last football season but indicated that he will be playing for
Prospect United come next season. He is a grade nine student at the Heritage
High School. The course was personalized for youth league coaches, and focused
on technical aspects of coaching, along with the development of youth players.

It was conducted under the
Olympic Solidarity programme, and was designed to provide a standardized level
of training to coaches around the world. It provided an excellent opportunity
for coaches involved with youth teams to enable them to receive formal training
by a FIFA instructor.
