Youngsters eye Summer Splash

The World Cup may be on but
swimming has its own big event this week.

Wednesday, 16 June, sees the start
of the Caledonian Group Summer Splash meet. The event will go on for four days,
wrapping up on Sunday, 20 June, at the Lions Pool in George Town.

Organisers Stingray Swim Club are
coming off a successful staging of the annual Lions sprint meet weeks ago. The
oldest in the Cayman swim calendar, the meet had a big presence from the Lions
Club and local youngsters as 155 swimmers took part. Among that group was the
Cayman Brac Barracudas, which sent a very large team including CARIFTA swimmer
Martha Rivers along with Chineme Ezema and Lauren Williams.

Many of the younger swimmers turned
out, with 115 of the entries being 10 or younger. Ultimately a select few
dominated their age-groups including Iain McCallum (11-12 Boys), Cory
Westerborg (six and under Boys), Will Roberts (7-8 Boys), Iain (10 and under
Boys) and Catriona Macrae (11-12 Girls) and Zororo Mutomba (7-8 Girls). Other
winners were Claudia Subiotto (six and under Girls), Kavanagh Lambert (10 and
under Girls), Bethany Cleaver and Geoffrey Butler (13-14 category) and Amber
Myrie and Seiji Groome (15 and over age group).
