Hellcats are the fiercest again

Cayman’s flag football season heads
into its fifth week of play this weekend. In that short time there have been
many trends.

For starters the SPIN 94.9FM
Hellcats, from West Bay, continue to be the toast of the league. The squad is
unbeaten in four games and are dominating on both sides of the ball. Heading
into Saturday’s show-down with the Calabash Soldiers at the Ed Bush play field,
the Hellcats were second in scoring with 50 points and first in defence with
seven points allowed.

Much of that success comes from the
steadfast play of stalwarts Phil Brown and Chester Hurlston. Brown has emerged
as a two-way player with the departure of Perry Levy while Hurlston is a member
of West Bay’s defensive line which has established itself as a three-headed
sack monster.

The other trend has been that the
contraction of the league from eight to six teams has increased the level of

Every team has a few quality
players now that can facilitate winning streaks. For example the Calabash side
(formerly the Caybrew Farm Soldiers) has a serious deep threat weapon in Nigel
Solomon and a solid cornerback in Neville Morgan (both are former team-mates of
the now defunct
Hammerhead Pirates).

In spite of its mediocre 1-3 record
the Burger King Panthers are vastly different team from last season. New to the
fold is Simon Rivers (formerly of the Hellcats), Neil Clements and Ransford
Welcome (both formerly of the Hammerheads).

  1. Big game on Saturday as the leagues top 2 teams battle it out for 1st place and braggin rights.
Westbay the reigning champs versus the deadly stacked Calabash soldiers who have the best receivers in the game… Nigel Solomon, Leslie Harvey, Will Pegero, and Sean Moyle; led by their once banished coach Johann Moxam AKA "XBOX", cause he learned all his football from playing in on video games.

You got to love Westbay, talent at every position, zero weakness and a history of winning to back it all up. Led by Frecko Ebanks and massive o-line protection and killer defence rush I would have to bet on Westbay as the winners of this game.

Also on Saturday there is some other games but they aren’t really worth watching… so come out to Ed Bush @ 4:45.
