Beach fun to net more funds

The Cayman Islands Volleyball
Federation is hosting a fundraising party ‘Play.Love.Serve’ to raise money and
awareness for its athletes and programmes. The volleyball federation needs to
support its athletes in regional and international competitions. It also runs
many youth programmes in beach and indoor volleyball.

They are gathering their resources
to put on a successful event on Saturday, which will include a fashion show by
Funky Monkey and many prizes, plus a silent auction. The beach party will be
fun-filled and action packed. Tickets cost $15 pre-sold and $20 at the entrance
and includes one free drink, ‘The Sizzle’ donated by Tortuga Ltd. Drink
specials will keep people happy at $3 beers and $4 spirits. All profits from
ticket sales go towards supporting the athletes.

Taylor Burrowes is one of the
organisers. She said: “We are also hosting the silent auction to link a
community partner into our cause. We have selected CAYS Foundation. The Frances
Bodden girls’ home has finally been rebuilt and the move-in day for the
residents will be by December. After burning down a year and a half ago, the
residents are finally able to have a place to call home again.

“CIVF will be donating proceeds
from the silent auction to fund new bedroom furniture for them. We will help
them move in and decorate their new bedrooms, hoping to establish some
long-standing ties between our athletes and their residents. We want to provide
a hands on approach to inspiring the youth to live better, healthier, and more
active and balanced lives.

“We also plan to create a
volleyball programme for the residents to get out there and get active on the
beach. Silent auction items include services or items donated by friends of volleyball
and our own athletes in order to get people to donate their money to help these
kids and athletes get the basics they need. Items so far include: Pure Health,
Anytime Fitness, Adventure Charters, LifeExtenstionCayman, Coach Marie at the
Lions Pool, Westin Hotel.”

The event this Saturday at
Margaritaville from 7pm-12am.
