The annual Cayman Islands Triathlon
is one of the biggest and most popular sporting events here so the organisers
are pleased that it has a new sponsor.
Krys & Associates is the new
sponsor for the triathlon which is on Sunday 28 November from Public Beach. The
triathlon association’s Interim President, Dave Bennett, said: “With the
economy struggling the triathlon association is very pleased that Krys &
Associates have recognised the importance of this healthy community activity.
One of the main goals of the association is to promote healthy living and
lifestyles through sport. Krys & Associates are also in agreement with this
mission and we are very pleased to have their support. Krys has demonstrated
its commitment to health through its ‘Off The Beaten Track’ race which is held
in February and its support of the triathlon just cements its commitment to a
healthy lifestyle to all sports.” Krys & Associates also sponsor the
Pirates Week 10k run on 21 November.
The triathlon association has
shifted focus in recent years to present a race that is meaningful for any
athlete or participant. The message now is: “If you can swim or bike or run, we
want you to join us. If you want to volunteer, that will work as well, because
we need the help this year, and we think you will want to compete next year.”
The Cayman Islands Triathlon offers
a number of options. The sprint version comprises a 750 metre swim, 20km bike
ride and 5km run, while the Olympic distance race is twice as far, at 1500
metres for the swim, 40km bike, and 10km run. Additionally, a 10km run is
offered as a solo effort.
The triathlon association is also
coordinating a training series similar to prior years. The training series will be informal training
sessions for anyone interested in training with other triathletes in October
and November. The goal is to encourage people new to the sport and to give
hard-working triathletes a chance to gauge their training.
Individuals and teams are invited
to participate. In order to be as inclusive as possible, the association offers
a team building feature, and will match individuals of different skill sets.
For anyone thinking of taking up triathlon, it’s a great sport. From the moment
of taking that first stroke in the swim to that last stride in the run, it’s a
world of fun, accomplishment, and camaraderie.
