Foundation aids Cayman scholar

Takiyah Smith is the latest
beneficiary of funding from the New Self-Help Community Foundation.

Miss Smith, who studies at Oakwood
University in Alabama, became the third scholar this year to receive US$1,000
toward her studies this fall semester, along with a laptop computer and winter

The non-profit organization aims to
help teenagers develop a sense of self-worth, independence and community
spirit, and the investment is a demonstration of the value the foundation sees
in Miss Smith and other young people.

This investment was made possible
by the success of the Foundation’s Annual Talent Exposition of the Arts and the
many supporters and friends of the Foundation.

“Listening to what people have to
say, and responding helpfully is the key to the success of a people or a
nation,” said Foundation CEO JC Connor.

“It is our hope that our
contribution in Takiyah’s life will impact her life and her peers in a positive
