The 2010 Cayman Islands Netball
Association mixed corporate and club netball league gets going this weekend.
After an extended registration
period league games will take place starting this Saturday 4 September on the
netball courts at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
This year the netball association
wanted to try a different format to the league by splitting the competition
into two different divisions, a corporate section (which would have been more
for fun and leisure) and the ever-competitive club category.
Unfortunately the corporate
division did not pan out even with the extended registration period as only one
company registered a team.
League organizers pressed ahead and
will start the co-ed action this Saturday with five teams ready for action. The
defending 2009 mixed champions All Stars will be keen to keep their coveted trophy
on their mantle this year. Among the stalwarts expected to steady the side are
Carolyn Vivian, Pauline Bodden and Cynthia Collington.
Meanwhile a slew of sides will be
out to knock them off including the newly crowned 2010 open league champions
At this point the spirited yellow
and green squad will want to take a shot at doing the double after beating All
Stars in the open league finals back in May. Don’t be surprised if the likes of
Sudan Powell, Stacy Duhaney and Clifton Ricketts make a strong run to the mixed
Rising Stars, who placed third in
last year’s edition, will also be looking to mix it some more. The last two
teams of the league will be the Unity club and newcomers FHH Blazers, which
will have some old and new faces in their ranks as their quest for mixed
netball greatness begins.
Look for more information about the
league in the coming weeks and do be sure to make plans to watch some netball.
