Fidelity series keeps striding along

Summer vacation is ending and a new
season of road-running activities is underway. Following last month’s Stroke
and Stride series, Fidelity will once again undertake the sponsorship of its
annual three-session fun run series.

The first race of the series gets
going this coming Saturday 11 September and the other meets in the series will
take place on the next two successive Saturday mornings (18 and 25 September).
All of the races will be organized by Jerry Harper and the Phoenix Athletic
Club.

Race day registration for the
two-mile loop course action will take place from 6:30-7:15 a.m. near the
starting point opposite John
Gray High
School on Walkers Road. Registration forms may be
downloaded from www.caymanactive.com. The fee is CI$15 for the entire series or
CI$5 for each individual outing.

The three top overall male and
female point scorers as well as their counterparts in age groups
u12,12-14,15-19, 20-29,30-39,40-49,50-59 and 60-plus will receive trophies, as
will the top three scorers in the pram division. Points will be awarded each
week in each category with a maximum of 10. Overall award winners are not eligible
for age group awards.

Refreshments will be served each
week and random prizes will be distributed at the final session. Last year’s
overall men’s competition could not have been any closer, with a brilliant duel
between Marius Acker and Dave Walker. Marius took first week honours with Dave
second. Week two ended in a reversal of positions. The stage was set for the
final excitement and Dave emerged triumphant, one second faster than Marius.

For the ladies, Julie-Anne Pearson
led the way, while a strong performance from Dee-An Foster earned her runner-up
honours, with Emily Davies taking third.

As always, persons of all ages and
abilities are invited to join in the fun. Pram wheels should be well-oiled and
well-behaved four-footed friends on leash are also welcome.
