Island round-up tally: 1 goat, 1 horse

Department of Agriculture staff had a
busy morning on Sunday, chasing down a stray horse and a wandering goat in
George Town.

They captured the horse as it roamed
along the road near CUC, while the goat led them on a merry chase around the
Compass Centre car park and the Esso petrol station on Shedden Road.

Members of the public had reported
sightings of the goat on Saturday, and when it showed up again on Sunday, the
Department of Agriculture staff were nearby, having just caught the horse, and
were able to find the goat, too, and chase it down.

The goat had gone for a stroll through
the Compass Centre car park before crossing Shedden Road and lying down for a
rest in the Esso forecourt. When the Department of Agriculture showed up, it
did not go quietly, instead, leading its pursuers on a chase back across the
road and around the Compass Centre, before being lassoed by Pedro Agurcia in
the dirt lot beside the building.

The horse and goat were transported by
trailer to the Department of Agriculture.

The department will try to trace the
animals’ owners, Mr. Agurcia said.

Under the Animal Law (2003 Revision),
animals that are not claimed by their owners are put up for auction.
