Security Centre lock Cup up

After a miserable week of rain and
thunderstorms, Saturday’s inaugural Corporate Kicks 6-a-side football
tournament looked set to be a no-go. Thankfully, the clouds broke and the sun
got through to help with what was a great day of sporting entertainment.

At 10am, the games kicked off on
schedule at the playing field at Camana Bay School, with the CNB ringers taking
on Security Centre and Butterfield taking on Centre Spot. All teams fought
competitively but fairly which was the general theme for the day. As the day
progressed, The Maestros, BDO, Maples, KLE Electric, KPMG, and Digicel all went
head to head in their group games, battling it out for the final spots in the
Cup and Plaque finals.

In the Plaque final, Butterfield
got the better of a depleted Maples side by a 2-0 margin.

In the Cup final, the two strongest
teams of the day came head to head: Security Centre against Centre Spot. After
20 minutes of continuous attack, Security Centre came out the winners 3-1. Team
captain and backbone of Security Centre, Paul Valenti, spoke of the pride in
taking home the trophy: “It wasn’t an easy day out and we worked hard for this.
I have to say it was down to the strong keeping performance and solid back line
that got us through. Credit to Centre Spot for giving us a good run for our
money.”

All proceeds of the event will go
to Team Cayman For Haiti. The team, consisting of five travelling members and
countless other volunteers thanked Butterfield, Camana bay, Digicel and
Kingston Hot for the support and contributions on the day. They also extended
their gratitude to all teams that turned out for the event, paying $250 to
enter and hope to see them all next year.
