Car accident causes outage

A traffic accident in the Red Bay
area was the initial cause of power outages Friday afternoon, the Caribbean
Utilities Company said.

A dump truck hit and damaged power
lines in the area of Red Bay Primary School at approximately 2pm, according to
the CUC.  The accident caused loss of
power to one circuit feeding the Crewe Road, Grand Harbour and Red Bay areas.

CUC spokesman Neil Murray said
power was restored to customers within the hour by switching customers over to
a second circuit.

At approximately 3.20pm, a fault
occurred on second circuit, which resulted in an equipment fire in the Selkirk
Drive area.  Fire crews responded immediately
and extinguished the fire.

“CUC’s restoration teams worked to
restore the power as quickly as possible and in a safe and efficient manner to
all customers,” he said.  “There were no
injuries as a result of the motor vehicle accident or the restoration process.”

Power was restored to all customers
by 7pm Friday.
