A man was in police custody
following a firearms operation in the West Bay area last week.
About 4pm on Wednesday, a police
operation was launched in the Northwest Point Road area. During the operation a
car and a house were searched by police and customs officers.
The operation resulted in the
recovery of a loaded shotgun, several rounds of ammunition and a quantity of
ganja, according to police.
The 22-year-old suspect was
arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of
ganja.
“This operation underlines
our commitment to act swiftly and decisively to remove guns and ammunition from
the streets of the Cayman Islands,” Acting RCIPS Chief Inspector Frank Owens
said.
