As part of Older Persons Month,
West Bay neighbourhood police officers arranged for a group of local seniors to
have a free tour of the Cayman Motor Museum last month.
Around 20 people from the Golden
Age Home and the Church of Christ in West Bay spent an hour or so at Andreas
Ugland’s new museum on Friday, 22 October. They were joined by Caymanian
musician and folk hero Aunt Julia Hydes, who provided some additional
entertainment by performing an impromptu drum recital.
“We wanted to do our bit for Older
Persons Month and treat some of our more mature citizens to a trip to the Motor
Museum,” Constable Sharon Baillie said. “It was all about showing our
appreciation for the contribution they make to our communities and reinforcing
the relationship we have with them.
“They all had a great time and for
many of them it was their first visit to this fantastic facility. They were
completely blown away by all of the wonderful cars and Aunt Julia was
particularly delighted when she saw the first car in Cayman on display.
“I’d like to thank the Cayman Motor
Museum for facilitating this event and helping us to make it a memorable Older
Persons Month for people in West Bay,” Mr. Baillie said.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my day,”
said Miss Hydes. “The officers in West Bay do a good job and it was very nice
of them to arrange this visit. I can remember seeing some of the first cars on
the Island, but that was obviously a long, long time ago.”
