Radio/telethon raised $117,500
The 31st annual radio/telethon for
the National Council of Volunteer Organisations raised more than $117,000 on
Saturday night, thanks to dozens of performers, volunteers who received pledges
or donations, and members of a sophisticated production crew.
NCVO chief executive officer Janice
Wilson thanked everyone who worked during the 7pm to midnight broadcast as well
as the hours setting up and winding down, in the combined effort to raised
$140,000.
Ms Wilson emphasised that the
fundraiser is not over because through to Saturday, 6 November, LIME customers
will be able to make a $10 donation to the NCVO by texting the word Donate to
4483 (short code GIVE). “We’re delighted that LIME, as a long- time supporter
of the NCVO, is partnering with us to provide their customers with an
additional opportunity to make a donation,” she said.
She also thanked people in the
community for phoning in pledges and bringing them in as soon as possible to
the NCVO office at The Pines on Pines Drive off Smith Road.
When CITN and Radio Cayman signed
off at midnight, the announced total raised was $115,000. However, Ms Wilson
explained, the pledge takers were still tallying at the time, so it was not
until later that the total of $117,500 was confirmed.
Funds raised will be used to assist
children in the NCVO’s foster home, preschool and nursery and will contribute
toward the care of more than 100 local children, organisers said.
