The Liquor Licensing Board on
Wednesday approved the Jacques Scott liquor license transfer for a West Bay
store in the Foster’s Food Fair centre, pending a health inspection and
approval from the Planning Board.
The decision comes nearly two weeks
after a ruling by Chief Justice Anthony Smellie ordering the LLB to reconsider
the license transfer and more than six months after the initial license
transfer application.
“We are delighted that the LLB have
reconsidered, and thank them for so doing,” said Peter Dutton, Jacques Scott’s
managing director.
The Jacques Scott store in West
Bay, which is meant to sell fine wines, spirits and house wares, was proposed
as the anchor tenant for the shopping centre near Foster’s.
The LLB denied the original liquor
license transfer for the West Bay location for several reasons, citing a
concern for public safety.
The case was brought in front of
the chief justice in September, when a procedural irregularity stalled the
court’s decision.
Last month Justice Smellie ordered
the board to reconsider the transfer based on evidence already gathered and
submitted.
