The tennis Legends left a lasting
impression on aspiring champions when they competed at the Residences at the
Ritz-Carlton and now even the tiniest kids have their chance to emulate the
champs.
Little Couriers, Safins and Edbergs
could soon be coming out of Cayman’s junior programme judging by how many are
taking up the sport.
No less than 19 kids turned out for
a great afternoon of Cayman National-sponsored Tennis Tens at the Ritz-Carlton
last weekend.
The high number of players suggests
that the Tennis Tens format, with lighter balls and smaller courts and
racquets, has really caught on. Running it were Ritz-Carlton coaches Uli Hoppe
and Jon Crossan, aided by Thomas Neuert and members of the Tennis Federation of
the Cayman Islands.
The under-eights (the bigger group)
were coached and competed on mini courts, with the Under-10s on reduced regular
courts. Winners were Jade Wilkinson and Calum Lindsay. Second were Dylan Lewis
and James Piraulx and third were Harrison Clough, Zachary Moore and James
Bolland. The keen youngsters were all issued with Cayman National water bottles
and stickers, as well as certificates, which were very popular.
