Electrician dies at WB heritage park

An
electrician putting the finishing touches on some wiring at the West Bay Heritage
Day site Tuesday evening was found dead – the victim of an apparent electric
shock.

It
was not known precisely what time the electrocution occurred.

Event
organisers said the man’s body was found around 9.30pm by a passing security
guard. The guard spotted his friend’s car parked at a small house that had been
set up at the heritage park for Wednesday’s event, and decided to go in and say
hello, according to event planners.

When
he entered the structure, the guard found the electrician – a 33-year-old male
– lying on the floor with what appeared to be wiring in his hand.

Event
organisers said the contractor, who had been hired by a company to work on the
site, stayed on after all the other workers had gone home.

“He
was on his own in the little house trying to fix the A/C,” said Eziethamae Bodden.

Rob
Bennett of the West Bay Action Committee said contractors made arrangements to
be back on the site at 7am Wednesday to finish work on time for the 11am
heritage day opening.

“He
was just determined to get the A/C fixed up for that building,” Mr. Bennett
said. “We could have just opened up the windows and been fine.”

The
West Bay Heritage Day event, which is part of Cayman’s annual Pirates’ Week
festival, continued as planned Wednesday.

According
to police, the electrical worker was involved in setting up the heritage park
in West Bay for the annual event.

RCIPS
said there was nothing to indicate foul play in the man’s death.
