Van Liere teed it all up nicely

The annual general meeting of the
Cayman Islands Golf Association was held at the North Sound Club on Saturday.
New members were elected for the 2011 season. They were: Joel Dodson (president),
Serge Berube (vice-president), David Bird (secretary), Jason Perras
(treasurer), and the committee members are George Christie, Samantha Widmer,
Dale Hanson, David Allott and Elaine Stokoe.

Outgoing president Judy Van Liere
gave in her report members details of the 15 tournaments organised this year by
the association and its involvement in international competition. She also paid
tribute to the support received by golf association from the North Sound Club
in providing facilities for their competitions and coaching for the junior
programme. The club also provides coaching and training facilities for the
adult and junior national squads. Van Liere thanked the owners of the North
Sound Club for their assistance and looked forward to a continuing co-operation
in the year to come.

Members were also given details of
the SNAG programme being introduced by the golf association. SNAG stands for
‘Starting New At Golf’ and the golf association now has equipment to take to
the schools on Island to introduce young players to the game in a fun atmosphere.
A pilot course is being set up with First Baptist Christian School and the
intention is to spread to other schools soon.

Van Liere also thanked the sponsors
of various aspects of the association’s operations, particularly NCB Homes and
Ogiers “for their unbelievably generous support of CIGA, our events and our
teams”.

Van Liere stepped down as president
after two years in the post and was given a rousing vote of thanks by the
members for a job really well done.
