I am delighted to have this
opportunity to offer my congratulations to the Cayman Islands Chamber
of Commerce on 45 years of service!
From its humble beginnings the
Chamber has evolved into an organisation that now represents over 700
businesses and associations from every major industry sector in the Cayman
Islands. The Chamber runs numerous programmes and events in support of
talent and workforce development, networking for businesses, community
awareness, economic development initiatives and advocacy. One of these that I
have been involved in and particularly admire is the GREEN Business
programme which actively encourages businesses to develop and implement
green policies, such as the introduction of energy saving
products.
In the short time that I
have spent in the Cayman Islands, I have had the pleasure
of hosting receptions for those involved with the Mentoring Cayman progamme
for students and the Junior Achievers programme. Both of these offer
excellent training and development opportunities for young people, which is so
important these days.
Another initiative of the
Chamber which I welcome and one which complements my own responsibility
for the security of the Cayman Islands is their very successful Cayman Crime
Stoppers Programme.
The Chamber’s most recent initiative
was the successful Future of Cayman Forum, in which my office
participated. It brought together senior representatives from the public and
private sectors with the aim of agreeing and ultimately working together to
implement actions relating to developing talent, creating a business friendly environment,
building a smarter infrastructure, diversifying the economy and enhancing the
quality of life. Aim high and you just might achieve it!
The above are just some of the many
areas that the Chamber is involved in, for the good of its members and for the
good of the country.
