The four
Cayman Islands national football players who are presently in the UK for
professional training and trials for three weeks – Mark Ebanks, Luigi
Hernandez, Donald Solomon and Theron Wood – travelled to northern England on
Saturday.
Hernandez was
invited there to try out for Notts County. The group will remain there until
Tuesday when they leave for Blackburn. All four will train with Blackburn on
Wednesday and Thursday before returning to London where they will continue to
have stints with other Conference League (semi-pro) clubs for possible placements.
They are based with Ashford Town, a semi-pro team managed by former Jamaica
international Jamie Lawrence. Cayman’s technical director Carl Brown is with
them.
They played
their first game last week for Ashford Town against Frimley Green and did
exceptionally well. Ashford won 4-0 with Ebanks getting a hat-trick and Theron
Wood scoring the fourth. Both Solomon and Hernandez played well also, in centre
midfield and centre half.
Solomon played
the pass to Ebanks for his first goal and the other two were played in to him
by Wood. Ebanks also gave Wood the pass for him to score his goal.
