Next spring may sound like the
distant future, but the Cayman Islands Agricultural Society is encouraging
locals to prepare for the season’s biggest agricultural display from now.
The group is urging local vendors
to secure stalls for next year’s Agricultural Show. The 44th edition of the
event is slated to take place on Wednesday, 9 March, 2011 at its usual setting
in the Stacy Watler Agricultural Pavilion in Lower Valley. Society President
Errol Watler said spaces will be provided on a first come, first served basis
and that there are a number of plans in the works. Mr. Watler went on to talk
about the preparations heading into next year.
“At this year’s show we had over
7,000 patrons and it was very successful financially,” Mr. Watler said. “I
thank the Department of Agriculture for their help with that and planning for
the 2011 show has already begun. We’re looking for sponsorship, and tickets
will soon be ready as we’re in the process of getting them printed.
“One of the new things we’ll be
doing for 2011 is promotions on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc. We
want to move agriculture into a business and we’re working on a multiyear
strategic plan,” he said.
