Editorial for December 20: Help us with annual toy drive

This is the season about giving,
not receiving.

To that end, the Caymanian Compass,
along with Woods Furniture and Design and Rooster 101.9 radio are appealing to
the public at large to help us with our annual toy drive.

We are in our eighth year of
helping to make Christmas brighter for children in need in our community.

We simply ask that while you are
out and about getting into the Christmas cheer that you purchase a new toy for
a child or an item for a teenager and take it to the offices of the Compass on
Shedden Road, Woods at Dorcy and MacLendon Drive or to Rooster, which is at
Grand Harbour.

Inside our offices you will find
huge cardboard boxes just waiting for your gift.

We are asking that you provide a
new gift for the boys and girls who will receive these presents. Please refrain
from offering up gently worn toys and items.

While the Cayman Islands is known
as a place of wealth and excess to a point, there are many among us who know
nothing of this wealth.

There are families in our midst
where moms and dads are having to work two jobs just to make ends meet while
attempting to raise a family. Some would love to be able to give their children
new gifts for Christmas, but they just can’t afford to choose between putting a
hot meal on the table or buying a present for their child.

There are so many of us in this
country who are not wanting for anything; who can afford to buy an extra
present for a child who may not have a merry Christmas without our efforts.

In addition to toys and items for
teens, we are also accepting non perishable foodstuffs, which will go a long
way in helping a family have a nice Christmas meal.

Those who give to our toy drive
will also be rewarded.

Everyone who donates a toy or an
item will receive a voucher for 15 per cent off their next purchase at Woods
Furniture and Design.

Please, help us make Christmas a
little bit brighter for children in our midst who are in need this season.
