Santa’s surprise at Lighthouse

Santa Claus visited the Lighthouse School last week courtesy of past and present dive employees of the Cayman diving industry.

In early November, more than 100 past Cayman diving industry employees — those who worked prior to 1990 — and some present employees met for a reunion at both the Sunset House and Wharf restaurant.

“The reunion was a great success,” said Ron Kipp, coordinator of the event. “Everyone was just hugging each other and kissing each other.”

The event was coordinated by Rod McDowall and Mr. Kipp, and after all the bills were paid, the reunion fund had almost $1,000 remaining.

“We just decided to give it to somebody,” Mr. Kipp said. “We thought that would be a good idea.”

Additional donations were made by Red Sail Sports, Caribbean Producer Services, Burger King and Popeye’s.

Gifts were brought and Santa was recruited to make a surprise visit to the school where all 84 children received a gift plus a photo of themselves with Santa.

It was all smiles and happiness as the children reflected the joy of giving at the Lighthouse School.

“Their faces were so bright when Santa showed up,” Mr. Kipp said.
