The biggest party in the Cayman Islands this New Year’s Eve is the What’s Hot-sponsored party at Calico Jack’s.
The shindig is free, and punters are encouraged to dress in either black tie, lingerie and toga or indeed a combination of all three – so no excuses! There’ll also be a bonfire on the beach – no better way to see in the new year.
The line-up of DJs includes local and international talent. DJ Brooklyn, as the name might suggest, is coming down from New York especially to join in the fun.
Growing up in the small town of Bellefontaine, Ohio, DJ Brooklyn Earick rocked his first live set at a rave before he was old enough to drive. He honed his skills to break into the US national club circuit by playing at some of the hottest clubs from New York to LA and at events such as the Sundance Film Festival and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
DJ Brooklyn spins and produces electro, house and dubstep, and his recent formation of a new group called Young in Brooklyn, with super producer Chris Young, has attracted the attention of some of the biggest record labels in the industry. After his recent move to New York where opportunities are calling, Brooklyn is excited for his second visit to Grand Cayman, turning down many amazing offers to spin New Year’s Eve at Calico Jacks.
Also on the bill is South African DJ Billy Courdroy, familiar to Cayman listeners of Spin and those who have caught his regular appearances throughout the island. Ethan Manderson, aka DJ Beatdown, is Caymanian born and bred and is as passionate as he is skilful, and in a last-minute change due to unforeseen circumstances, he will be playing in the VIP tent.
The VIP tent is fully air-conditioned and costs $80 for all the beer and champagne you can drink all night. There’s a private bar with an Absolut ice luge, private DJ, masseuses, a vanity and special gift bag. Tickets are available at Calico Jack’s.
Security will be checking ID of anyone lucky enough to look under 21 and the site will be fenced off to help facilitate the clean-up operation, explained Calico Jack’s manager Sian Weinzweig.
“Last year some people in our community thought that Calico Jacks was to blame for the state of the beach on New Years Day, but it was in fact people bringing their own coolers and leaving their own mess behind. We will be putting extra garbage bins out and encouraging people to use them and help us all keep Cayman clean. We also recycle all of our aluminium cans and will have separate recycle bins for people to drop their cans into.”
