Europe’s leading spirits trade
magazine, The Spirits Business, honoured the Tortuga Rum Company at its annual
Spirits Masters Awards Luncheon held in London on 7 December.
Tortuga 5-Year Old Rum received the
highest level awarded, the title of “Master” in the Gold Rum >7 Years
category and Tortuga 12-Year Old Rum received Gold in the Gold Rum 8-12Yr
category. Don McDougall, regional manager Europe, Cayman Islands Department of
Tourism accepted the awards for the company.
The annual Spirits Masters Awards
are conducted by The Spirits Business, the only international trade title
solely dedicated to the global spirits business. The rum category was added in
2009 to this highly respected industry competition, with the 2010 Rum Masters
winners announced in the April issue of The Spirits Business.
“We greatly appreciate that Don was
able to accept these prestigious awards on our behalf,” says Robert Hamaty,
founder of the Tortuga Rum Company, Ltd. “It was an excellent opportunity to
showcase the Cayman Islands and our award winning rums to a distinguished
Tortuga 5-Year Old Gold Rum and
12-Year Gold Rum both won Gold Medals and Best of Category in the 2007 International
Cane Spirits Tasting Competition, held in Tampa, Florida. The 12-Year Old Rum
also has earned a Two Star Superior Taste Award from the International Taste
& Quality Institute in Brussels, Belgium. (The Tortuga 5-Year Rum was not entered.)
