Perhaps it was the tall gentleman with the Danish accent who attracted the 64 members, 32 guests and five visiting Rotarians to break the attendance record for a single weekly meeting for the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Sunrise recently.
Many of the guests were offspring of Rotary Sunrise club members, but all of the attendees enjoyed that special visit by the robed and mitered Sinterklass who — unlike Santa Claus — lives in Spain for most of the year and delivers presents to children around the world on 5 December. Each of the youngsters attending the 15 December Sunrise club meeting received a present from Sinterklass as well as holiday treats.
The annual visit by Sinterklass was organised by past president Hendrik van Genderen, and it has become a highly anticipated tradition for the members of the Sunrise club.
Because the local Kiwanis Club president is a close personal friend of Sinterklass, Sunrise President Michael Levitt was pleased to present a donation check of $250 on behalf of his club to further the good works done by the Kiwanis in Grand Cayman. Kiwanis President Wiekert Weber was present with his two sons to enjoy the festivities.
