Local hockey has always been community-minded and the latest endeavour saw a $4000 donation to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.
Over 160 kids and mums played in the first annual Street Hockey Tournament on Saturday, 15 January. The competition was a great success with over US$10,000 raised. Those funds went to a number of paediatric cancer related charities: the Cancer Society, Lightning Foundation and Unite for the Fight.
Last week a presentation was made to the Cancer Society. Making the presentation was the winning team in the Mite division that included Jack Lomax, Garrett O’Connor, Ben Stainrod, Jaden Thompson and Coach Mark Thompson. Accepting on behalf of the Cancer Society was Acting Office Manager Teresa Foster.
In addition to the funds raised from the tournament itself, some hockey players and mums from Cayman Prep baked goodies to sell to help contribute to the chosen paediatric cancer charities (which ended up raising an additional $1000).
