Two men struck by car on sidewalk

Two men who police said were hit by a suspected drink driver Tuesday evening were expected to survive their injuries.

The vehicle’s driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and later released.

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, just after 5.30pm Tuesday, two men were struck by a car on Eastern Avenue near the Cayman Shoe shop. Police said the car had driven up on the sidewalk and struck the men from behind.

Both injured pedestrians were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital. One, a 47-year-old man, was admitted for abdomen, chest and arm injuries and was listed in stable condition. The second, a 44-year-old man, was released following treatment to leg injuries.

The car’s driver was not hurt.

The vehicle’s driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and later released.
