On the Brac
A delicious cooking demonstration takes place at 10am Saturday, 5 March at Cayman Brac Heritage House.
The dish, explained assistant programme coordinator Saskia Edwards, will be Cassava Stretcher.
“Whether a visitor to the Island in search of unique Caymanian recipes to impress friends and family with back home, or a proud Caymanian or local resident looking for a refresher course in local delicacies, the class is guaranteed to be fun for all,” Saskia tells Weekender.
Best of all, no supplies are needed and classes are free. Scheduled to conduct the class is Shirleymae Connor. Coming up at Alexander Hotel on Tuesday, 8 March, from 3-5pm is a craft session with Francine Connolly, a crochet expert.
“Mrs. Francine is another one of our visitor craft session demonstrators. She is also a member of the Sew & So Club here on the Brac where she enjoys socializing with others and sharing her craft.
“During one of our visitor craft sessions, Mrs. Francine helps visitors to crochet by first teaching them the basics and making a ‘chain’. She often brings some of her own items to display, such as pillows, blankets and more,” says Saskia.
Throughout March – up until the 25th, anyway – there’s a nature display at the facility, continues Saskia.
“It will feature animals unique to the Sister Islands such as the rock iguana, Cayman Brac Parrot et cetera. I also plan to feature photos of local flowers and plants. I am hoping to obtain photos from some of our local photographers on the Brac,” she says.
