The Public Transport Board of the Cayman Islands has issued notice to taxi, limousine and bus drivers to renew their permits. All taxi and limousine operators and driver permits expire on 31 December of each year, said Transportation Board Director Durk Banks. “The law allows for a grace period of three months, which is until the 31st of March,” he said. “All of public transport permits expire on the 30th of June annually, with a three-month grace period. Few drivers will not renew their permits,” Mr. Banks said. “The majority of drivers who do not renew wish to retire from the public transport business and do not continue to carry passengers for hire or reward. A permit is only required if you wish to transport persons for hire or reward.” Drivers who fail to update their operator permits could face a fine of $500 and imprisonment of six months.
