American Airlines have cancelled
two flights to and from Miami International Airport on Friday afternoon.
Flight AA561, due to arrive at
12.20pm, and the departing flight AA1018, were listed as Cancelled on the
Cayman Airports website as of 10.30am.
Flight AA2240 is still scheduled to
depart from Grand Cayman at 3pm.
The flights are some of those
affected by a fire in the fuel farm at MIA on Wednesday night, which knocked
out refuelling facilities.
An emergency tanker-based
refuelling system has been put in place but it takes twice the time. The
airport lost 40 per cent of its fuel reserves in the blaze.
American and other airlines have
suffered some delays and cancellations as the problem is sorted out.
Officials continue to investigate
the source of the fire. Permanent repairs to the system may take weeks.
Customers are advised to contact
their airline to double check on flight status.
