Honoured veteran turns 92

Carley Elton Ebanks, who was honoured at this year’s National Heroes Day, celebrated his 92nd birthday on Thursday, 17 March, when he was honoured again by a tribute from his brother Varian, his children, grandchildren and other family members.

Mr. Ebanks is one of the few surviving veterans who served his country in the Trinidad Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War II.

He was honoured on National Heroes Day in January with the Medal of Honour (Commander) Award.

Mr. Ebanks resides in his home in West Bay where he continues to be looked after by his caregiver, Doreen, and his dedicated children and grandchildren.

Although physically frail, his family said, Mr. Ebanks is able to communicate and enjoys chatting with friends when they visit.
