All Stars B are a young team filled with Under-21 talent. The side may not be an elite netball squad but has flashed the sort of defence that can more than keep up with other clubs.
The latest team to find that out was Rising Stars B, who were on the losing end of a 38-15 score. The match was part of the 2011 open netball league, put on by the Cayman Islands Netball Association.
It took place at the netball courts of the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Leading the way for the All Stars were star defensive duo Whitney General and Renee Lindo. Both have been in the sport since childhood with Lindo a former youth national team member.
General guided the Cayman National Bank All Stars to the division two title last season.
Rising Stars would struggle to get any offence going past them. General was mostly Goal Defence and hampered Wing Attack Alexis Carias from connecting with her attacking players.
Among those scorers was Letanya Thompson, who had a rough go of things. From a sprained finger to some frustrating long shots caused by Lindo, it was not her finest hour.
In all honesty the only two players of note for the red and white crew were Nethea Rankine and Mariska Lopez.
Rankine served as Centre and in spite of being under pressure she connected on most of her passes.
Lopez was Wing Defence and gave nifty All Stars players Jeneka McLaughlin (WA) and Merary Eden (C) someone to worry about.
For all of their defensive intensity, All Stars were equally lethal on offence.
Goal Shooter Liana Benjamin simply had an exquisite stroke and she rarely missed.
Goal Attack Tishelle Logan was not far behind with her footwork and positioning. While her shot failed her many times, she caused match-up problems being around the net.
