The work of Caymanian artist Gordon Solomon was recently featured on online Caribbean Magazine.
This marks what appears to be the first appearance for an artist, as the forum usually highlights musicians, glam, pageants and other entertainers.
“I think it’s good to be recognised in the region. It is great for Cayman, as we can see we are going places and reaching people. It is also good that the outside world can learn about Cayman from Caymanians,” said Mr. Solomon.
On the website, Gordon’s biography and several of the works from his book A Thousand Words are featured.
“That book is for serious clients,” says Solomon.
Gordon has also represented the Cayman Islands in New York City in 2009 in a joint exhibit with his wife Alta. He was also featured in New York Arts Magazine, as part of a programme organised by World Art Media.
“I sold two paintings on that trip and still have a piece on show at the Empire State Building,” says Solomon, who adds that as part of the programme, the opportunity exists for him to travel to Beijing and Spain. Gordon has had difficulty raising funds for the trips, but he remains hopeful.
As part of each trip, the artist receives exhibition space in the host country, a half-page colour add in the New York Arts Magazine, as well as invitations to the exhibition and preparing and hosting of the opening reception.
Gordon and his work can be found all over the Cayman Islands in galleries and at the Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman.
