Fathers’ Day at the Grand Old House is a classic and delicious experience in one of the most gorgeous settings on Grand Cayman. This most iconic of Caymanian restaurants has a long and proud history as a fabulous eatery on Cayman and its stylish, friendly feel is a must for dads of all ages.
The lunch special on Father’s Day, which runs from 11.30am to 2.30pm, features a USDA Rib Eye steak for just $19.50.
“Private rooms are available and there’s air conditioned comfort right on the water’s edge,” said General Manager Martin Richter.
He added that there will also be a kids’ menu and an a la carte menu available.
In the evening other dishes will be absolutely gorgeous. The food on offer from the famed Grand Old House chefs include a stunning Fresh Cayman red snapper with saffron risotto, sautéed callaloo and lemon grass cream for only $16.50. Or maybe pops would prefer the chargrilled organic chicken breast, plantain mashed potato, rum coconut sauce, okra tomato ratatouille for $15?
Seafood delights
More seafood delights are promised including a spectacular pan fried or olive oil poached local Wahoo and grilled shrimp with ricotta cheese ravioli, baked tomato, arugula lettuce and balsamic drizzle, for just $18.
Sunset supper begins at 6pm at one of Cayman’s most elegantly-appointed establishments. The surroundings are also rightly famous; indeed Grand Old House recently received award of distinction for the preservation of historic places presented to the restaurant by the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.
The building stands on the Petra Plantation, which was originally cultivated as a coconut plantation. Over the years the house has been used as a private home, Sunday school, hospital for soldiers wounded in World War II, a hurricane shelter and even a beauty parlour.
It was first used as a restaurant in 1969, at which stage South Sound Road was little more than a dirt track and the restaurant was lit by oil lamps. Preservation and restoration efforts have meant that the building retains its grand status as a perfect setting for lunch, dinner and special occasions – such as Fathers’ Day.
