Isabella Rooney of Cayman Prep & High School has been chosen Butterfield Young Musician of the Year 2011 by virtue of her impressive vocal performance.
Shanique Ayres from John Gray High School took second place and Kenroy Millwood of Nicole Bodden’s Studio won third place.
The competition, now in its fourth year, showcased a variety of strong musical talent, Butterfield said in a press statement. During the award ceremony on 4 June at the Harquail Theatre, guests were entertained by performances of all 12 student competitors and the two guest judges, pianist Glen Inanga and violinist John McLaughlin Williams.
Each competitor received a finalist’s trophy, and the first, second and third place winners received their place trophies and a cash award from Butterfield of $500, $300 and $100, respectively.
“We congratulate all 12 finalists on their hard work,” said Sheree Ebanks, a director at Butterfield. “Seeing the level of such amazing talent in our youth truly inspires us to continue supporting this great award.”
