Boston hoists Cup

The Boston Bruins are now Stanley Cup champions.

Boston ended a 39-year title drought on Wednesday night by beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-0. The game seven victory gives the Bruins a 4-3 series win and kudos as the best team in the National Hockey League for 2011.

With the Stanley Cup title, Boston now has championships in the four major American sports leagues this decade. The Boston Red Sox won Major League Baseball’s World Series, the New England Patriots nabbed the National Football League’s Super Bowl and the Boston Celtics won the National Basketball Association Finals.

Bruins goalie Tim Thomas claimed the Conn Smythe trophy as the series Most Valuable Player. Thomas states it is incredible to win.

“It’s quite an honour,” Thomas said. “The Stanley Cup is the biggest one. That’s the one that you’re shooting for. I started to read some of the names on it and it’s an honour.”
