Traditionally, Cayman’s swimming team at the Island Games is always a successful one and the team heading for the Isle of Wight this week is bound to maintain that standard.
The squad is six strong, plus coach Dominic Ross and Jennifer Powell will manage the team. The swimmers are headed by the all-conquering Lara Butler and the others are her brother Geoffrey as well as Tori Flowers, Summer Flowers, Joel Rombough and David Ebanks.
Coach Dom said: “The team is strong and experienced. They should all fare well at this level of competition and we expect that they will do themselves and the country proud in their efforts.
“The last Island Games team was a little more inexperienced in open competition. They did reach a number of finals and all improved their lifetime best performances.
“Geoffrey and Tori are the youngest team members at 15. They are both in a position to be competitive in the distance freestyle events and have been training well.
“Joel and Lara likely have the best shot at hitting the podium. We expect them both to be strong in multiple events.”
