Get ready for a festival of Cayman’s talented performers on Sunday, 26 June.
The annual Talent Xposition of the Arts blends poetry, dance, drama, exhibitions and creative teachings, and this year takes place at the Harquail Theatre from 5.30pm, says organiser JC Connor.
“It’s the 10th year now and at the New Self-Help Community Foundation we are all about showcasing the local talents. This year we have some new up-and- coming rising stars like Dru Bodden, Javaughnie Ebanks and more.
“The foundation is a non-profit organisation designed to help teen youngsters develop a sense of self-worth and community spirit. We choose the performing arts to develop that quality of self-worth and self-esteem. We choose the youth from within the community to set a positive example for the ones that are coming behind,” says JC.
There’s poetry, dance, drama and creative teaching planned, plus a display of fine art by Weekender’s friend Al Ebanks. The art will be on display and there’s everything from comedians, monologues and performing arts schools.
Over the years some of the performers have grown with the event, JC says.
“Anyone coming down will be surprised and amazed at some of the talent that they will see. They have a lot of talent and sometimes they do not get the opportunity to showcase it. The show has been sold out for the past nine years and sometimes we actually had to close the door we were so full.”
Tickets available from Funky Tangs and Reflections, $10 in advance or $15 on the gate. Proceeds benefit the foundation’s youth programmes.
