Cooks in paradise: Little Cayman event

Weekender is in love with Little Cayman; its atmosphere, pristine beaches, wildlife and diving are quite rightly known as paradise.

We’ve always wondered what would happen if this amazing corner of wonderment could possibly get any better. And, thus, we might explode at the news that the Sister Islands Cook-Off is scheduled for Saturday, 2 July.

We mention this early in order that we can book our flights in good time to indulge in this fabulous event, presented by the Sister Islands Tourism Association and held as ever at the Southern Cross Club.

This year’s the 14th cook-off and each year it’s been getting a little bit bigger and a lot more fun.

Five categories

This year the five food categories include: Local entries (non professional cooks), entrée, soup/appetizer, salad, and dessert.

First and second prize winners in each category will receive a Nambe Trophy. In addition, first prize will receive $100 cash and second prize will receive $25.

The highest score in all categories will receive the Nambe Grand Champion Trophy and $200. The resorts on the island can sponsor whoever they wish to enter the competition, or individuals may enter without sponsorship.

The cook-off will be accompanied by a raffle for airplane tickets, dinners, scuba gear, fishing equipment and other valuable items. The traditional egg toss will also bring lucky winners cash prizes. DJ Emeril and his Little Cayman Cookers will provide music.

And after all that, there’s always the perennially wonderful attraction of some of the most gorgeous surroundings on the planet. Bliss.
