The national championships in track and field were held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex last week and with the Island Games and plenty of international tournaments approaching it was the perfect setting for quality performances.
One who shone was Ammarie Bodden who won the girls’ 13-14 long jump, high jump and 800 metres. She pipped Pearl Morgan in all three but Morgan got the satisfaction of beating her in the 60m hurdles.
Other notable performances included DeQuan Bennett and Alex Pascal winning the javelin in their respective categories and Louis Gordon, Anissa Owen and Tyler Lee winning the long jump by big margins in their groups. Sprint doubles were done by Robert Ibeh and Sheyla Torres in the 100m and 200m and Dwayne Anglin-Folkes won the men’s 400m in 52.20 seconds.
